Over the weekend, Leithan made his long awaited Boxing debut in Surfer's Paradise.
For a long while now, Leithan has been trying to find an opportunity to jump into the ring for a Boxing match. Over the weekend, he finally got that opportunity on Jamie Myer Productions for a corporate boxing fight. His opponent was a pure boxer from Tweed Tiger Sharks with one previous fight under his belt.
In the first round of the fight, Leithan immediately showed confidence and dominance. Leithan took centre ring and immediately worked his opponent up to the ropes. He made effective use of his jab, setting up some heavy rear hand strikes, all the while keeping his opponent pressed up against the ropes. Without having seen the judges scorecards, it is safe to say that Leithan easily won the first round.
In the second round Leithan continued with the same plan of attack, however his opponent seemed to find his tempo. Leithan continued with the heavy pressure, and whilst he still was able to keep his opponent against the ropes, they were able to slip and counter more effectively in this round. Round 2 was by far the closest round of the fight, and this ended up ultimately deciding the fight.
In the third and final round, Leithan continued to move well, however his opponent had established his timing and rhythm by this point. Leithan still landed a few good blows, however he's opponent outdid him with higher volume of strikes and better placement in this round.
When the dust had settled and the gloves were off, unfortunately the win was awarded to Leithan's opponent. The fight was exceptionally close, and whilst we felt like Leithan did enough in round 1 & 2 to secure the win, it was still a perfectly reasonable decision by all accounts.
Overall, Leithan put on an incredible performance in his first ring appearance. As a mixed martial artist, he went up against a pure boxer and came very close to taking the win! Leithan looks to set his sights on the Muay Thai scene as his next stop on the highway to the cage.
